FAQ

Tombstonebook.com is a platform to allow individuals to search and view tombstone images from around the world to connect all deceased wherever they are by means of their Tombstones. It works by collecting user submitted data on tombstones from around the world. Please help us build a more complete database by adding your loved ones today.
There is no cost to upload your Tombstone photos or search for all Tombstones photos globally.
No. Anyone can search our database for free. If you want to post records of your family members (or anyone else!) then you will need to at least verify your email address. Creating an account will allow you access to editing, family linking, and other features.
Just click the “add a tombstone” button on the main page of this website to either capture a photo from your mobile device, or upload a stored image from your Personal Computer. Then just fill in the name and dates for the tombstone. If you have geolocation (GPS) turned on on your camera when you take the photo, our system will attempt to place the tombstone in the perfect place on a map, but if not you can always adjust the exact location.
When the photo is uploaded, it is passed through Google's image recognition and translation application in order to extract the written content from the image. You can use this text to fill in the details, or just type it in yourself. You are able to identify and/or correct the data fields to ensure proper cataloging of the record.
For now, please just make the best guess you can on this information. We are planning to allow a user to add partial/estimated dates in the near future.

Yes, a generic “virtual tombstone” can be created. These virtual records can still be given a location on a map and linked to family members in the same way as a photo record.
